I am sitting in a hotel in Sacramento, having driven up last night for a hearing this morning.
I managed to forget to bring dress socks, so I will be sporting the strong look of white socks with my suit. Oh, yeah, I forgot my dress belt too, so my crappy brown one that I was wearing last night will have to do.
The day hasn’t even started and I already want a do-over.

If I still lived in Rancho Cordova I’d kick you down a pair of black socks to use. But I’m now at the wrong end of US-50.

Look for a nearby Walgreens or CVS. They carry socks. You might have to settle for medical compression socks, but at least they will be black. You’re on your own for the belt.

You should wear pantyhose and an electrical cord. They’ll be too confused to question it.

I could mail you some black socks, but something tells me they won’t arrive from Nova Scotia in time.

My band kids always like to pretend that they forgot their uniform socks so I have a pair of black socks in my purse at all times. I don’t think I own a pair of black or white socks for personal use.

Rough, I’d go no socks before white socks.

This is solid logic.

I’ve been driving to Abilene (3.5 hours) for 20 years, and I have to take a tux every time. I’ve gotten into a hardcore routine of packing. I always pack my suit first: shoes, socks, tie, belt, undershirt, dress shirt, pants, coat. Then I pack the stuff I absolutely need: trumpet, mutes, music, etc. Then it’s on to sundries. Only once have I forgotten my tux, but I had only gone about 5 miles before my wife called to tell me it was still sitting on the porch.

Ouch. I get around this by only having black socks, black shoes and black trousers and black belts.
It makes for a tidy if rather plain wardrobe.

I always wondered who bought clothes at CVS and Walgreens ...

Emergency supplies. I’ve found myself in a similar situation. It happens occasionally when you travel frequently.
